PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas)

We had sown a seed that was nurtured by nature over a period of time. The seedling has now evolved into a plant that supports the national interest of spreading computer literacy and vocational training with an objective of improving the quality of life in the rural and semi-urban areas of our country.

India, a developing nation of 1 billion people has setup an ambitious target of achieving the developed nation status by the year 2020. A country with rich heritage and vast amount of resources can achieve this target, but only if we ensure equal opportunities to rural India where 72% of population still resides. Foresight rural development initiative is being conceptualized to provide equal opportunities to rural India based upon the theme of PURA (Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas). The program named NAV-PRABHANAM, which means a new beginning is a block level intervention for development and ensures knowledge, electronic and economic connectivity to the villagers of that block. This rural development initiative of Foresight addresses the following issues.

1. Rural Youth Empowerment: Education and Training is an issue of critical importance for rural youth. Lack of skills and opportunities for training are the major reasons for increasing unemployment in rural areas. A number of youth is unable to reach their potential because of non availability of training facilities. A wing of Nav-Prabhanam named Computer Training Centre, is dedicated to provide employment oriented computer training with quality standards at par with urban areas. The organization is being credited with ISO 9001-2000 certification for maintaining quality in the field of computer education.

2. Rural Women Empowerment: The Young Women are likely to suffer from discriminatory practices and habits in Indian society specially in rural areas. Rural young women receive less education and fewer opportunities in vocational training than men. The second wing of Rural Development Initiative of Foresight, named Vocational Training Centre, is conceptualized to empower the rural women by offering them skill development programs to equip them with employment skills.

3. Empowerment of Farmers: The third and equally important centre of this initiative is meant for spreading awareness among rural folk specially the farmers. The centre is known as Rural Awareness Centre which conducts different training programs for farmers to update them with new technology and techniques to be applicable in agriculture.
